How I Got Here!

Thirteen years ago, I decided to give back to my condominium community after benefiting from the work of volunteer board members for ten years; it was time to do my share. I was elected to the board of directors and began to see the many projects that required the board’s attention. One of our many projects to undertake was the revision of our bylaws, which were twenty years old and had not been updated during that time.

It was challenging trying to get this essential but enormous task underway. We attempted to initiate the project several times but were consistently hindered by delays and resource issues that persisted for many years. We just put the work aside, as there was always something more urgent to deal with, and we lacked a good understanding of the best way to proceed.

Finally, the time came when we could dedicate the resources to get the project underway. The volunteer bylaw committee began working away but struggled to make meaningful progress as time went on. Without the specialized experience necessary for updating the bylaws, the committee was unable to complete a comprehensive set of draft bylaws that could be taken forward in the process. We had to start over.

While working with the committee on the second attempt to update our bylaws, I discovered that information is available if you know where to find it and what to do with it, but this process was time-consuming, and you were never entirely sure you had everything you needed. I knew that there must be a better way.

After discussing our challenges with various industry professionals, I concluded that we should have sought specialized help to guide us. Some industry help is available, but more support is needed.

In 2020, I decided to become the support I needed and did the work required to become knowledgeable on updating bylaws. I now offer this support as a consultant to other condominium corporations. …. Bylaw Consultants was born!

At the start of April 2022, I added Condominium Board Member and Unit Owner Consulting to my list of Services I offer clients.

In January 2024, I recognized the need for an enhanced pre-purchase document review to provide condo buyers with the necessary information to make an informed purchasing decision.

There is much more to buying a condo than most purchasers realize.

With all the additional services I now offer to the industry, a new company name was needed. …. Alberta Condominium Consultants.

I wonder what new services will be added next….?
